Cho Yeo-jeong and Jung Sung-il’s thriller "Murder Report" (directed by Cho Young-joon) landed at No. 3 at the Korean box office in its opening weekend, a modest start for the headline duo.

The film opened Sept. 5, drawing 36,081 admissions on Friday to debut at No. 3. It pulled 60,626 on Saturday (Sept. 6) and 53,241 on Sunday (Sept. 7).

Despite opting for a Friday launch to maximize weekend turnout, the numbers came in softer than hoped. "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba ― The Movie: Infinity Castle" kept its momentum into week three, while "The Conjuring: Last Rites" flexed the franchise’s brand power to stay ahead.

"Murder Report" follows a serial killer who offers a reporter an exclusive interview, setting off a chilling game of cat and mouse. Cho Yeo-jeong plays the journalist who sits down with the murderer, portrayed by Jung Sung-il.

Backed by a 5.5 billion won production budget, the film’s break-even point is around 1.2 million admissions. The opening may be lukewarm, but all eyes are on a potential second-week bounce fueled by word of mouth.
