Actor Park Sung-woong is stepping in as the new face―and voice―of Korea’s National Assembly.

Park will front National Assembly TV’s Yeouido National Assembly Building 50th Anniversary Special, “50 Years With the National Assembly, and the Future.” In the program, he serves as a presenter introducing the legislature to the public, following in the footsteps of veteran actor Choi Bool-am, who led the 40th-anniversary documentary.

The film retraces five decades of parliamentary history―from the day the National Assembly Building rose on what was once open fields in Yeouido, through the twists of modern Korean history and the country’s democratic strides. Park adds gravitas with his signature baritone as the documentary’s narrator.

On set, he interviewed children to capture a fresh perspective on the Assembly, and―In a first for broadcast―climbed onto the Assembly’s roof for a few surprising finds. He also toured the grounds with National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik, swapping stories despite the sweltering heat.

The special premieres today (Sept. 1) at 9 a.m. KST, with a rebroadcast at 7 p.m. KST.
