Netflix has unveiled the first teaser poster and trailer for "Genie, Make a Wish", starring Kim Woo-bin and Suzy.
Premiering Friday, Oct. 3, just ahead of the Chuseok holiday, the fantasy rom-com follows Genie (Kim), a lamp spirit back on the job after a thousand years, and Gayeong (Suzy), a woman who claims she feels nothing, as they clash over three wishes. Watching a world-naive genie try to crack an emotionless human sets the stage for a high-concept, high-stakes romance. The cast also features Ahn Eun-jin, Noh Sang-hyun, Ko Kyu-pil, and Lee Joo-young, rounding out the series’ distinctive world.
The newly released teaser poster teases their perilous push-pull. On a rippling golden desert, Genie sweeps in on a sandstorm and appears to go for his new master Gayeong’s throat―only for her to coolly press a hairpin to his neck in return. Their razor-sharp stares and electric, do-or-die tension are impossible to ignore.
The teaser, opening with narration from Sayyid (played by Go Kyu-pil), cranks up the intrigue with a devilish Genie and an ice-cold Gayeong whose first meeting defies expectations. A wicked wish-granter who lures people with desires, the “Devil” Genie suddenly finds himself bound to the beautiful yet uncanny Gayeong. He dogs her every step―“Make a wish. Hurry. Now.”―but she couldn’t care less, quipping, “Should my first wish be to kill you?” as she brandishes an arsenal of weapons. Still, Genie must lead her into temptation through wishes. The question is whether he can pierce her fortress-like indifference and extract one―any one―of those wishes.
Clock-spinning cuts reveal a startling range from the unfeeling Gayeong―tears streaming in one moment, a radiant smile the next―stoking even more curiosity. Meanwhile, shots of Genie and Gayeong streaking across the Seoul skyline hint at a swoony, one-of-a-kind romance that plays by no one’s rules.
