Actor Joo Jin-mo, 50, just delivered an unexpected life update after years away from the screen.
On Aug. 27, the YouTube channel Byun Ki-soo Golf TV aired footage from a June 30 shoot at BlueOne Country Club in Sangju, North Gyeongsang, where Joo jarred his tee shot on the par-3 seventh with a 9-iron ― the channel’s first ace in its five-plus-year history.
The tee box erupted. Host Byun Ki-soo shouted, “We’ve filmed every week for more than five years and never caught this ― and it happens on day one of our prize event.” Fellow players could only gasp: “No way,” and “We just watched an ace ― rarer than getting struck by lightning.”
Recalling the moment, Joo said, “The ball had a little side spin and got sucked straight into the cup. I was so shocked I wasn’t sure I’d seen it right ― but it dropped. It’s my second ace ever, and celebrating it with so many people made it even sweeter.”
The shot came with a perk: a luxury watch valued at 27 million won. At a presentation held Aug. 26 at the High Time boutique in Seoul’s Apgujeong neighborhood, Joo said, “As a golf lover, I’m thrilled by this bit of luck. Having it on video makes it a memory I’ll never forget. Huge thanks to Byun Ki-soo Golf TV and High Time for the event.”
Joo married physician Min Hye-yeon in 2019. That same year, he stepped away from acting after a phone-hacking incident led to the leak of private text messages.
