The producers of KBS2’s show "Boss in the Mirror" issued an apology after airing anchor Kim Jin-woong’s “second fiddle” comment about former anchor Do Kyung-wan without any edits.
In a statement released on the 27th, the team said, “We sincerely apologize for causing concern and discomfort to many viewers with last week’s episode.”
“We will exercise greater care throughout production to prevent this from happening again,” they continued. “We’re deeply sorry for the disappointment and will take this as a lesson to deliver more responsible, mature programming.”
During the Aug. 24 broadcast, Kim said, “I can’t live like senior Do Kyung-wan. This may sound disrespectful, but I can’t live as someone’s ‘second fiddle.’” The remark was widely understood as implying Do lives as the “second fiddle” to his wife, singer Jang Yoon-jeong. The comment drew backlash as rude; Jang publicly expressed her displeasure, the controversy escalated, and Kim later issued a public apology, which Do and Jang accepted.
The show’s producers were also criticized for airing the segment as is. They have since suspended the episode’s replay and publicly apologized in an effort to contain the fallout.
