Former KBS announcer-turned-TV personality Do Kyung-wan addressed the uproar over junior colleague Kim Jin-woong’s on-air remarks, saying he’s received a direct apology.

Posting to his social media on the 26th, Do wrote, “To some, our marriage might look lopsided. But we lean on each other, built on mutual respect and care,” adding, “I received a text apology from my junior, Kim Jin-woong.”

He continued, “It hurt to see my family―and those who support us―caught up in this, and I don’t want anyone else getting hurt because of it. We’ll be back to greet you with brighter smiles.”

The controversy began on the Aug. 24 episode of KBS2’s "Boss in the Mirror," where Kim said, “I could never live like senior Do Kyung-wan,” and, “It might sound rude, but I can’t live as someone’s second fiddle.”

Do’s wife, singer Jang Yoon-jeong, pushed back, saying, “If the other person can’t laugh, it’s not a ‘joke’ or ‘just kidding.’ There’s no second fiddle in a family.” She later shared that she accepted Kim’s apology, noting, “It must have taken courage to apologize, and that’s reason enough to accept it.”

As the backlash grew, Kim issued a statement on social media: “I apologize to seniors Do Kyung-wan and Jang Yoon-jeong for my careless comments on the broadcast,” adding apologies to viewers and fans. He wrote that his inexperience led to a lapse in judgment, and that he “learned the hard way how reckless words can cause deep hurt.”

Do Kyung-wan married Jang Yoon-jeong in 2013; they have a son and a daughter. After 12 years as a KBS announcer, he left the network in 2021 and has since worked as a freelancer across TV shows and live events.
