Nah Sang-hyun (30), frontman of indie band Band Nah, has reiterated his stance amid groping allegations and is moving forward with legal action through his label.
On the 25th, his agency January said via its counsel at Law Firm Jeongdok that it has filed criminal complaints for alleged violations of Korea’s Information and Communications Network Act (defamation), obstruction of business, insult, and the dissemination of false information. The company added that investigations are underway.
January also noted it is working with authorities to identify users who posted what it calls malicious falsehoods and defamatory remarks about members of Band Nah on platforms including X (formerly Twitter) and Google Drive. The label said it continues to monitor ongoing posts and collect evidence related to new instances of alleged defamation or insult.
The controversy began in May when an online post alleged that Nah pretended to be drunk at a gathering and touched a woman’s thigh. At the time, Nah shared a statement on social media saying he didn’t remember the incident but apologized nonetheless.
About a month later, the label walked that back, saying the statement had been a preemptive, moral response issued before facts were confirmed. In early August, Nah personally clarified on his blog that “the claims were not true,” apologizing to fans for the confusion caused by his initial, hasty response.
“The specific scenario raised by some online users is a fabrication, and therefore there can be no ‘victim,’” January said, adding, “We apologize for our imperfect early handling of the situation. We will do everything we can to protect our artist’s rights and restore his reputation.”
