Cha Eun-woo, ASTRO member/actor, has unveiled the last magazine pictorial he shot before heading to the military.
On the 21st, Esquire released its new spread with Cha Eun-woo in partnership with luxury house Saint Laurent. On set, he went for a dramatically shorter cut, serving up a fresh look fans hadn’t seen from him before.
On shoot day, staffers from his agency showed up in matching tees that read “What We Wear to Send Eun-woo to the Army,” complete with a baby photo of Cha. The design matched the one ASTRO’s Yoon San-ha shared on his social media in late July.
In an interview with the magazine, Cha said, “I still have a little time before enlistment, but this is my last official schedule,” adding, “I only realized after stepping out of the elevator that the team had made matching shirts to send me off. It still doesn’t quite feel real.”
Cha also decided mid-shoot to chop his hair. “Because of ads and other commitments, I couldn’t just cut my hair whenever I wanted,” he said. “Since this was my last project before enlistment, I wanted to leave a short-hair look on record. And because it’s a fashion editorial, I felt I should show a bolder side I hadn’t shown before.”
He added, “Shooting with Saint Laurent is extra fun. When you see thigh-high boots and calf-grazing leather coats, it’s exciting to figure out how to translate those statement pieces into images that feel uniquely ‘us.’”
Cha enlisted on July 28, but there’s plenty of him on the way. “I’ve been planning for the last year or two so fans won’t feel my absence,” he said. “'First Ride,' a film about friendship and youth that I made with fellow actors Kang Ha-neul, Kim Young-kwang, Kang Young-seok and Han Sun-hwa, is gearing up for release.” He also finished filming the Netflix series 'The Wonder Fools,' in which he plays a by-the-book civil servant who’s a bit lacking in social savvy, and it’s awaiting its premiere.
