Actor Ahn Bo-hyun is making a play for the summer tentpole box office with the film ‘Pretty Crazy.’
‘Pretty Crazy’ is a possession comedy about Gil-gu (Ahn Bo-hyun), an out-of-work young man who stumbles into a bizarre side gig: keeping watch over Seon-ji (Yoona), who wakes up as a devil at dawn.
Ahn plays Gil-gu, a recent quitter stuck in a colorless routine. He’s tall and sturdy, but behind that first impression is someone timid and pure-hearted. Worn down by people and the daily grind, he’s become a homebody―until Seon-ji enters his life and nudges him toward healing old wounds. Ahn traces that journey with quiet, detailed work that makes it feel lived-in.
In particular, Ahn nails Gil-gu’s trademarks: the wide-eyed, round-mouthed “O” expression, shoulders hunched despite his height, and an innocent, kid-like smile―choices that make you want to look out for him.
With ‘Pretty Crazy,’ Ahn is poised for another pivot. After making a strong impression in JTBC’s ‘Itaewon Class,’ Netflix’s ‘My Name,’ tvN’s ‘Military Prosecutor Doberman,’ and SBS’s ‘Flex X Cop,’ he leans into a warmer, straight-arrow charm this time around.
Headlining a prime August release in the thick of the summer tentpole season, his box-office prospects are already drawing attention.
‘Pretty Crazy’ opens nationwide today (Aug. 13).
