Dexter Studios has thrown its expertise into the much-anticipated film 'Omniscient Reader,' showcasing its proven know-how in creating fantasy worlds.
Content powerhouse Dexter Studios, along with its subsidiary Livetone, announced their technical involvement in the digital color grading (DI) and sound (SOUND) departments for the film 'Omniscient Reader.'
'Omniscient Reader' is a fantasy action film that unfolds the story of 'Kim Dokja (played by Ahn Hyo-seop),' the sole reader of a novel that becomes reality on the day it concludes after more than a decade of serialization. He, along with the novel's protagonist 'Yoo Joonghyuk (played by Lee Min-ho)' and others, strives to survive in a world that has fallen into ruin. Since its domestic release on July 23, the film has topped the box office and has been pre-sold in 113 countries, including the US, Japan, Canada, and Germany, garnering intense international interest.
Dexter's DI division, known for its color grading work on 'Along with the Gods', Disney+'s 'Moving,' 'Light Shop,' Netflix's 'Parasyte: The Grey,' and TVING's 'Death's Game,' has once again brought to life the colors and atmosphere of an imaginary world. Livetone, following its collaboration with director Kim Byung-woo on 'Take Point,' has teamed up with him again.
Park Jin-young, a senior colorist at Dexter's DI division, shared, "The unique world of 'Omniscient Reader,' where the real world and the novel's world intertwine, required a lot of creative ideas and screen directing techniques using color. We focused on contrasting the dry, cold low-saturation of the real world with the bold, high-saturation colors of the novel's world. Viewers will definitely notice a distinct difference in the color portrayal of Kim Dokja, a character from the real world, and Yoo Joonghyuk, from the novel."
Livetone's CEO and sound supervisor, Choi Tae-young, stated, "Given the lack of comparable worlds, creating a sound design that would captivate audiences, especially those who are avid readers of the web novel and webtoon, was our main challenge. Despite the game-like world where characters engage in battles using skills that don't exist in reality, the film strikes an optimal balance within a cinematic environment, enhancing the protagonist (Kim Dokja)'s narration and emotions with background music, sound effects, and ambient sounds."
Meanwhile, Dexter continues to showcase its differentiated capabilities across a wide range of fields, including VFX (visual effects), DI (digital color grading), DIT (digital imaging technician), sound design, and mixing, collaborating with production companies in post-production for theaters, OTT platforms, movies, dramas, and animations.
