Actor Ahn Hyo-seop expressed his pride as a leading voice in the globally popular animation 'KPop Demon Hunters'.
During an interview in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 16th, celebrating the release of the movie 'Omniscient Reader: The Prophet', Ahn Hyo-seop shared his thoughts on the success of 'KPop Demon Hunters', which is currently leading Netflix's global charts. "I saw a comment saying the biggest barrier to entry for this project was its title. I found that quite amusing," he said with a laugh.
He continued, "I thought the character Jinwoo, whom I voiced, was really cool. Above all, the script was so fun that I had to do it. Regardless of it being global or whatever, I tend to choose what draws me in. But I never expected it to explode in popularity like this."
After uploading a cover of 'KPop Demon Hunters' soundtrack 'Free' on YouTube, which has since surpassed 10 million views, Ahn Hyo-seop said, "I'm someone who loves music and enjoys singing, so I posted it. I'm thankful for the positive reception. It was done with a light heart, but I'm glad it was well-received. I'm not just proud of the outcome as Jinwoo, but also as a fan who enjoyed the movie."
'KPop Demon Hunters' is an action fantasy animation that tells the story of KPop superstars 'Rumi', 'Mira', and 'Zoey', who act as hidden heroes protecting the world behind their glamorous stages. Since its release on Netflix on the 20th of last month, the film has become the most-watched content across both English and non-English movies and shows for five weeks, continuing its popularity streak.
The OST has also gained immense popularity. The track 'Golden' made its debut in the top 10 of the US Billboard main singles chart, with eight songs charting in the Hot 100 simultaneously.
In this project, Ahn Hyo-seop took on the role of 'Jinwoo', a member of the KPop idol group 'Saja Boys', delivering all his lines in English.
