Actor Uhm Tae-woong makes a comeback to the big screen after 9 years with the movie "The Last Assignment" (literal translation).
"The Last Assignment" is a heartwarming drama centered around a temporary homeroom teacher, 'Kim Young-nam', who continues his unique lessons to teach children the true meaning of dreams and happiness. Directed by Lee Jung-chul, who previously helmed movies like "Hearty Paws 2", "Family", the film stars Uhm Tae-woong in the lead role.
Uhm Tae-woong, taking on the role of 'Kim Young-nam', shared, "It's meaningful to participate in a project after such a long time. The script warmed my heart right away," expressing his feelings about his return.
Regarding director Lee Jung-chul, with whom he reunites after the movie "Family", he said, "We have a long-standing relationship since my early days. His steadfastness has always given me unwavering trust. It's a stroke of luck to work with him on this project," revealing their deep trust.
Uhm Tae-woong introduced his character, a temporary homeroom teacher at a private elementary school, 'Kim Young-nam', saying, "If there had been a teacher like this, I think my school days would have been more fun and happy." He also highlighted, "'The Last Assignment' is a warm movie that can resonate deeply, thanks to Director Lee Jung-chul's calm yet delicate direction."
Uhm Tae-woong's return to activity comes about 9 years after a controversy over his private life. In 2016, he was accused of sexual assault at a massage parlor in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. The investigation revealed that the accuser, Ms. A, had conspired with the parlor owner, Mr. B, to falsely accuse him, leading to Uhm Tae-woong being cleared of the sexual assault charges. However, he was found guilty of solicitation and received a summary indictment with a fine of 1 million won.
"The Last Assignment" is scheduled for release in August.
