The movie 'Yadang: The Snitch' continues its smooth sailing towards the 3 million mark, maintaining its number one spot at the box office even after the holiday season.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie theater tickets, 'Yadang: The Snitch' attracted 31,793 viewers nationwide on the 8th, securing its position at the top of the box office. The cumulative audience count now stands at 2,739,503.
Since its release on the 16th of last month, 'Yadang: The Snitch' reached the 1 million mark in just 8 days and surpassed 2 million viewers in 17 days. It then broke even (2.5 million viewers) on its 25th day, starting to turn a profit. The driving force behind this achievement was the over 800,000 viewers it attracted during the Labor Day and Children's Day holidays, situated between its third and fourth weeks.
However, daily viewership dropped to the 30,000 range after the holidays ended on the 7th. Despite this, 'Yadang: The Snitch' is expected to continue holding the number one spot for a while, thanks to its competitive edge over new releases and the lack of significant new competitors for at least a week.
Surpassing 4 million in ticket sales seems challenging. The release of 'Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning' on the 17th is expected to draw away many screens and viewers.
Rated for mature audiences, 'Yadang: The Snitch' has attracted the most viewers among Korean films released this year. With the 3 million milestone almost guaranteed, attention is now turning to its final tally.
