The popular webtoon 'The Remarried Empress' has officially announced its series production, revealing a star-studded cast including Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Jong-suk, and Lee Se-young.
'The Remarried Empress' is a flagship title of Naver Webtoon, boasting approximately 2.6 billion global views as of December 2024. The story is a grand romance fantasy epic about Empress Navier of the Eastern Empire, who, after being informed of her divorce by Emperor Sovieshu, accepts it on the condition that she is allowed to remarry Prince Heinrey of the Western Kingdom. The plot thickens with the introduction of Rashta, a former runaway slave who becomes Sovieshu's concubine, igniting the main conflict. Since its web novel debut in 2018, it has gained immense popularity, expanding into a webtoon and being translated into 10 languages by 2019, capturing the hearts of readers worldwide.
Shin Min-a will portray Empress Navier, known for her sharp intellect and innate elegance. Ju Ji-hoon will play Emperor Sovieshu, the symbol of absolute power and Navier's husband. Lee Jong-suk takes on the role of Prince Heinrey, who harbors secrets, while Lee Se-young will portray Rashta, the former slave aiming for the empress's position.
The series will be directed by Jo Soo-won, known for his work on 'I Hear Your Voice,' 'Pinocchio,' and 'Still 17,' praised for his delicate emotional portrayal and mise-en-scene. The script will be penned by writers Yeon Ji-na and Hyun Choong-yeol, who achieved record ratings with 'The Uncanny Counter' on OCN. Studio N, known for producing significant IP works like 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call' and 'Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born,' will handle production.
'The Remarried Empress' aims to faithfully recreate the original's world, captivating viewers with its mise-en-scene, scale, and narrative depth, setting a new standard for the romance fantasy genre.
The series' broadcast schedule is yet to be determined.
