The highly anticipated new film by Sho Miyake, considered a rising star in the Japanese film industry, titled 'Journey and Days' (working title), is set to premiere this December.
'Journey and Days' (working title) is directed by Sho Miyake, who has been invited to the Berlin International Film Festival three times in a row with his previous works 'Your Bird Can Sing' (2020), 'Look Into Your Eyes' (2022), and 'All of Dawn' (2024). He is currently one of the most talked-about directors in the film industry.
The film stars the beloved actress Shim Eun-kyung, known for her work in both Korea and Japan, alongside Shinichi Tsutsumi, a stalwart in Japanese film and television. Their collaboration is seen as a unique artistic exchange that transcends borders and languages.
In 'Journey and Days' (working title), Shim Eun-kyung plays 'Lee,' a screenwriter who experiences a transformative journey and connection with 'Benjo' (played by Shinichi Tsutsumi) in a snow-covered mountain retreat.
Shim Eun-kyung expressed her enthusiasm for the script, stating, "It's one of the most captivating scripts I've read in recent years. 'Lee' could be me, or it could be any of the audience members. If viewers can feel like they're embarking on a journey with 'Lee,' it would be meaningful," she shared, expressing her excitement about the role.
Shinichi Tsutsumi, who will showcase his subtle acting skills alongside Shim Eun-kyung, takes on the role of 'Benjo,' the innkeeper, bringing a charmingly aloof character to life. Tsutsumi also shared his eagerness, saying, "As soon as I read the script, I knew I had to be part of it. It's a film that brings a sense of comfort and a gentle smile," he said, revealing his reasons for joining the project.
The film is based on the classic manga 'The Seaside Scene' and 'Ben's Inn' by Yoshiharu Tsuge. Director Sho Miyake commented on the original work, saying, "It was so fascinating that there were days I wanted to escape from it," and added, "As I edit the film now, I am confident that a completely new movie is being born."
He also mentioned, "Working with Shim Eun-kyung, Shinichi Tsutsumi, and the entire crew has been incredibly harmonious, so I look forward to meeting audiences in theaters with excitement."
Having completed filming, 'Journey and Days' (working title) is set to premiere in Japan this November, followed by its release to domestic audiences in December.
