'Signal' is making a comeback with Season 2.
On the 5th, tvN announced, "The beloved drama 'Signal' will return as 'The Second Signal.' We are officially starting production with the goal of airing in the first half of next year, which marks tvN's 20th anniversary."
Originally aired in 2016, 'Signal' is a crime drama that connects detectives from the present and the past through a desperate signal (radio) to investigate cold cases. The unique premise of solving long-standing unsolved cases through a radio that links the past and present, combined with the intense narrative of the detectives' determination, left behind memorable lines such as "The past can be changed. Don't give up," earning widespread acclaim. The finale of 'Signal' recorded an average viewership rating of 13.4% and a peak rating of 15%, marking its highest ratings and solidifying its status as a legendary drama in the history of Korean television.
In the upcoming 'The Second Signal' (written by Kim Eun-hee and directed by Ahn Taek-jin), set to air in the first half of next year, the main cast from Season 1 will reunite: Kim Hyesoo as detective 'Cha Soo-hyun,' Jo Jinwoong as detective 'Lee Jae-han,' and Lee Jehoon as profiler 'Park Hae-young.'
Writer Kim Eun-hee will continue her role from the previous season, and director Ahn Taek-jin, who wrote and directed the film 'The Owl,' will take the helm, promising a high-quality revival of this time-slip crime drama.
Particularly, since Season 1 concluded with an open ending revealing the survival of the long-missing Lee Jae-han after 15 years, anticipation is already building for the storyline of Season 2.
The production team of 'The Second Signal' stated, "We are preparing thoroughly to present a more entertaining and profound Season 2 as a way to repay the love shown to Season 1. We ask for your great expectations and interest in 'The Second Signal.'"
