JISOO of K-pop girl group looked back on her trainee days, recalling how YG Entertainment used to call her "too chubby."
On January 30, JISOO guested on entertainer DEX's YouTube show "Fridge Interview."
While talking with DEX, JISOO shared how she ended up debuting as a member of BLACKPINK, saying, "Back in high school, I was trying to figure out my career path and thought, 'Maybe I should give this a shot?' YG Entertainment had the earliest auditions at the time, so I went for it and got in."
She continued, "It was during summer break, so I commuted and trained throughout the vacation. But when school started again, I had to choose between continuing my training or dropping out of school. After thinking it over, I decided to drop out, and somehow, I ended up here."
Talking about her trainee days, JISOO said with a chuckle, "Food was my little act of rebellion. I had gained some weight, so YG Entertainment staff were always telling me to lose it, but I still ate whatever I wanted. The head of YG Entertainment also told me to slim down, but I was like, 'I like being chubby,' and everyone thought I was weird for it. But after debuting, the weight naturally came off."
She went on, "One time, I tried sneaking out to eat lamb skewers without my manager knowing. I was so excited when I got to the restaurant, but right as I was about to go in, I got a text saying, 'Come back.' Turned out, they found out right away. Life as a trainee wasn't exactly east. Not having the freedom to do anything I wanted was tough."
She also shared a funny moment from practice, saying, "There were days when we had dance practice from 10 AM to 2 AM straight. One time, I really didn't want to dance, so I secretly unplugged the speaker cable. But the engineer came in right away and fixed it," making DEX laugh.
Talking about BLACKPINK's final lineup, JISOO said, "We had so many trainees back then, so I thought, 'JENNIE, LISA, ROSÉ, and I are definitely in, but who else?' The company originally wanted a bigger group—up to seven members—so we trained with that in mind. There were around 20 of us, and we were split into teams of five for evaluations. But in the end, it just became the four of us."
Ending the topic, JISOO excitedly revealed that BLACKPINK will be making a comeback this year and also has plans for a world tour.
