Amid news that actress Kim Min-hee (42), who has been in a public relationship with director Hong Sang-soo (64) for nine years, is expecting a child, a past story has resurfaced, suggesting they may have wanted a baby for quite some time.
On January 18, someone shared on social media, "After hearing about Kim Min-hee's pregnancy, I can't help but think they've been waiting for this baby for some time."
The post continued, "Back in 2019, I saw the two of them at a Starbucks in Hanam. Kim Min-hee noticed a baby at a nearby table who looked under a year old. She couldn't take her eyes off the baby and asked if she could hold them just once. When she did, she looked absolutely overjoyed."
The person added, "While holding the baby, she kept excitedly saying to Hong Sang-soo, 'This baby's so adorable. Don't you think?' This was just a few years into their relationship, and I remember being surprised at how openly they were acting, as if they didn't care what anyone thought."
Last week, news outlet Dispatch reported that Kim Min-hee conceived naturally last summer, with their baby expected to arrive this spring.
According to the report, Hong Sang-soo has been deeply involved throughout the pregnancy, accompanying Kim Min-hee to medical appointments and check-ups.
It is said that they moved to Hanam, Gyeonggi-do, near Kim Min-hee's parents' home, leading a quiet life there.
Kim Min-hee and Hong Sang-soo first met while working on the 2015 film "Right Now, Wrong Then" and eventually began a relationship despite their 22-year age difference.
The pair went public with their romance at the 2017 premiere of "On the Beach at Night Alone," where they openly described themselves as "in love."
Although they have been together for nearly a decade, they have not married and maintain no legal ties.
Hong Sang-soo, married since 1985 and father to one daughter, remains legally wed to his estranged wife.
Back in November 2016, Hong Sang-soo filed for divorce, but the Seoul Family Court ultimately dismissed the case in 2019.
He chose not to appeal the decision, though he has hinted at the possibility of refiling for divorce in the future when conditions are more favorable.
