Actor Song Joong Ki shed tears over the poor performance of his film "Bogota: City of the Lost."
On January 12, a talk for "Bogota: City of the Lost" took place at Mega Box Seongsu.
The event was attended by Song Joong Ki and actor Lee Hee Jun, who both starred in "Bogota: City of the Lost," and actor Lee Sung-min joined as a special guest.
During the talk, Lee Sung-min, who noticed the empty parking lot as he arrived at the venue, shared his thoughts: "As I was heading here, I saw that the parking lot was almost completely empty, and it really struck me. It feels like no one is coming to the theater anymore."
He continued, "There could be many reasons for this, but when theaters are this empty, it's really tough on actors. It makes us feel so frustrated when we release our film during such times. But still, that's something actors must endure."
Lee Sung-min then encouraged the audience, saying, "Please give us lots of support so the movie can do well and have a strong finish."
Holding the microphone, Song Joong Ki spoke next. "As Lee Sung-min said, Korean movies are going through such a difficult period right now. Honestly, these days, we're just grateful that our movies are even being shown in theaters," he said.
Song Joong Ki went on, "Because of that, we've been promoting the film like never before. I wanted to make the movie known, and I also wanted everyone to see me in a positive light. I believe the role of actors is to create meaningful content and provide comfort to audiences who are facing challenges in their lives. We'll keep working hard to bring diverse and engaging stories, hoping to be a source of strength once again."
As he spoke, Song Joong Ki's emotions started to show, and his voice wavered.
With his eyes starting to water, he said, "Talking about it makes me emotional. Anyway, thank you, everyone."
Eventually, he lowered his head and wiped away a few tears with his fingers.
"Bogota: City of the Lost" was released on December 31, and as of January 15, it had attracted 400,000 viewers—certainly not the best result.
Unfortunately, many of those who watched it left with negative reviews.
