Singer Ailee revealed the reason why she did not receive a proposal from her fiancé "Single's Inferno" Choi Si-hoon.
On January 11 episode of MBC's television show "Hangout with Yoo," Ailee appeared alongside singer John Park.
Before anything else, Yu Jae Seok congratulated Ailee on her upcoming wedding in April, cheerfully saying, "You're getting married in April with the guy from 'Single's Inferno,' right?!" to which Ailee responded with a smile, "That's right. I am!"
When asked if she received a proposal, Ailee said, "No, I actually didn't. It felt a bit weird. In the U.S., there's usually a proposal before you start planning for marriage. One of them will ask, 'Will you marry me?' and after saying 'Yes,' you begin preparing. But in Korea, it's different."
She continued, "In Korea, two people even start dating with the idea of marriage in mind, and they get proposed to after talking about marriage together. It's got a slightly different meaning. So, those big, performance-style proposals felt a bit off to me, and I didn't want one. I just chose my own ring. When we went to pick out the ring, I told him what I wanted. I said, 'I like this one. Get me this one.' And that was it."
Ailee then shared the nickname Choi Si-hoon calls her, saying with a shy laugh, "It's Ye-jin Princess."
She added, "When my fiancé shared the news of our upcoming marriage on Instagram, he surprisingly called me Ye-jin Princess. I've never seen anyone use a nickname like that in a post like that before! He wrote, 'I'll take good care of our Ye-jin Princess.'"
In March of last year, news broke that Ailee was in a relationship with a non-celebrity boyfriend, with marriage in mind.
Her agency confirmed, "Ailee is in a happy relationship with a man she met through a mutual acquaintance, and they are planning to get married next year. She will share the news with her fans when the time feels right."
Shortly after, it came to light that her boyfriend was Choi Si-hoon, who gained attention after appearing on Netflix's dating show "Single's Inferno" in 2021.
During his time on "Single's Inferno," Choi Si-hoon was introduced as an actor-turned-fashion entrepreneur. He now runs a restaurant and bar in Seoul.
They recently announced their wedding date for April 20.
