Actress Bae Doo-na shared that she believes there is nothing to gain from making a relationship public.
On December 16, Bae Doo-na and rookie actress Lee Suhyun appeared on entertainer Shin Dong-yeob's YouTube show "Zzan Bro."
During the show, when 2004-born Lee Suhyun revealed she has no dating experience, Bae Doo-na commented, "Oh, this is the best time in life to be dating!" prompting Shin Dong-yeob to ask, "Just curious though, are there any advantages to making a relationship public?"
Having experienced two public relationships, Bae Doo-na replied candidly, "Well, I don't think so, actually. There are no advantages to making a relationship public."
She explained, "Actors have to take on a variety of roles. Beyond the issue of my private life becoming a topic of discussion, publicly being associated with someone at all times makes it harder for audiences to immerse themselves in my roles."
She added, "If I were to see articles where my name is always paired with my boyfriend's, I think I'd feel upset."
When Shin Dong-yeob asked if her advice to the newly debuted Lee Suhyun would be to never get caught dating, Bae Doo-na affirmed, "Exactly. It's best to have plenty of experiences without getting caught."
Shin Dong-yeob also asked how she would feel if she were cast in a project alongside an ex-boyfriend. Bae Doo-na responded, "That's just too bad, I guess."
To this, Shin Dong-yeob joked, "Compared to the number of people you've dated, not many have been made public, right?" Bae Doo-na laughed and admitted, "Far fewer have been revealed for sure."
Bae Doo-na was previously in a public relationship with actor Shin Ha-kyun, her co-star in the 2002 movie "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance," and also publicly dated English actor Jim Sturgess, whom she met during the shooting of the 2012 film "Cloud Atlas."
