KARINA of K-pop girl group aespa revealed that her fellow member WINTER is a big fan of Lee Hong Gi of K-pop boy band FTISLAND.
On December 2, the 12th episode of KBS' music show 'Synchro U' was aired; the show is about finding the 1% synchronization difference between AI-created vocals and real singers.
The episode, titled 'The Greatest of All Time Special', featured cover performances by 'dream artists', some of the top artists in the industry.
The guests, K-pop artist Kang Daniel, singer Lee Juck, KARINA, entertainer Jonathan, and comedian Lee Yong-jin, gathered to listen to the songs and guess whether those were live performances delivered by 'dream artists' or AI-generated vocals.
The second round started, and Lee Hong Gi was one of the names from the 'dream artists' lineup.
After listening to Lee Hong Gi or AI's rendition of 'The Flight' by veteran singer Yim Jae-beum, KARINA was confident it was Lee Hong Gi's live singing.
"One of our group members is a 'Primadonna', the FTISLAND fandom.", she explained.
"She plays FTISLAND songs in our car whenever we are on the move for schedules. And it's always the live clips from the band that she puts on. The voice I just heard here is the same as the one I've been listening to constantly.", KARINA shared.
As 'The Flight' was played again, the stage opened and revealed the truth: Lee Hong Gi had been singing behind the stage all along.
The host, entertainer Yu Jae Seok, asked Lee Hong Gi if he knew that there was 'Primadonna' among the aespa members.
"I completely forgot about it, so it took me by surprise when I heard it today.", Lee Hong Gi replied.
KARINA then revealed which aespa member is the FTISLAND fan.
"WINTER is such a big fan. She is a huge fan of your music.", she shared with Lee Hong Gi.
Yu Jae Seok glanced at Jonathan and asked, "Why do you look so surprised?"
"Because I envy him.", Jonathan quipped, leaving everyone laughing hard.
