MINHO of K-pop boy group SHINee revealed that MBC's special television show "Idol Athletics Championships," which takes place every holiday, was created because of him.
On November 27, MINHO sat down for a talk with actress Ji Ye-eun for her YouTube show "Issue Club."
On this day, MINHO said, "Working out is one of my favorite things to do." and added, "I really love it."
When Ji Ye-eun asked, "Do you work out often?" MINHO replied, "I do workouts at the gym on a regular basis. I also engage in workouts that improve my cardiovascular fitness. I think I enjoy all kinds of physical activity."
Then, Ji Ye-eun mentioned, "I remember you always coming first in the 'Idol Athletics Championships' back in the day."
MINHO responded, "I participated consistently from the first episode of the 'Idol Athletics Championships.' Before it aired, I jokingly said, 'It would be fun if we had a sports event within the company.' That one comment ended up turning into the 'Idol Athletics Championships.'"
He continued, "There were a lot of SM Entertainment artists in the waiting room, so we started by saying, 'It would be fun if SM Entertainment had a sports event,' and then I joked about how it would be even more fun if we had one with artists from other companies. Our managers later spoke to producers about it, and it became a show."
Ji Ye-eun commented, "People who love physical activities probably really enjoyed the 'Idol Athletics Championships,' so it was truly a fantastic idea."
MINHO replied, "Yeah, I was so happy. Now that I've received so much love from the public, I've stepped back from the show."
