Actor Lee Dong Hwi and actress Jung Hoyeon have ended their 9-year relationship, and a video from just three months ago, where Lee Dong Hwi proudly referred to Jung Hoyeon as both his best friend and girlfriend, is now circulating.
Back on August 10, during the broadcast of ENA/EBS' "Kwak Taxi Trip 2," YouTuber KwakTube and Lee Dong Hwi went on a high-calorie food tour in Los Angeles, the United States.
For restaurant recommendations, Lee Dong Hwi and KwakTube asked the local taxi driver, and the driver recommended a burger joint that has been in operation since 1946.
While on their way to the burger joint, KwakTube introduced Lee Dong Hwi to the driver, saying, "He's the most famous actor in Korea."
Blushing, Lee Dong Hwi responded, "Well, he is a really famous YouTuber."
When KwakTube mentioned that he had just surpassed 2 million subscribers that week, the taxi driver was in shock.
The driver, who explained his wife enjoys Korean shows, asked Lee Dong Hwi what movies he had appeared in.
Lee Dong Hwi replied, "Ah, I don't think any of them are globally recognized."
After a brief hesitation, Lee Dong Hwi told KwakTube, "This is what I usually say when I have nothing to say." He then asked the taxi driver if he knew "Squid Game."
When the driver replied, "Oh yeah, of course. I've watched it like three times. I love 'Squid Game,'" Lee Dong Hwi proudly said, "There is a female character named Sae-byeok, and she's my girlfriend as well as my best friend."
KwakTube also chimed in, saying, "Do you know the villain from 'Squid Game'? The one with a tattoo on his neck. He's one of my close friends. We're like a family from 'Squid Game,'" making the driver surprised.
Feeling a bit embarrassed afterward, Lee Dong Hwi commented, "I wasn't in 'Squid Game,' but when I say I'm close to the cast, people always open up to me. I'm sorry, Hoyeon, but..." then chuckled.
In the afternoon of November 26, it was reported that Lee Dong Hwi and Jung Hoyeon, who began dating in 2015 and went public with their relationship in 2016, had recently broken up.
Their agency confirmed the news and added that they have decided to remain good colleagues.
