Actor Jang Keun Suk will serve his mandatory military service as a public service worker.
On July 6, Jang Keun Suk's management agency Tree J Company released an official statement regarding Jang Keun Suk's upcoming alternative military service.
According to the agency, Jang Keun Suk will serve his duty as a public service worker instead, following his diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
The agency stated, "Jang Keun Suk has received grade 4 from his health examination due to his mental health issue, which classified him as ineligible for active duty in the army. Since his first diagnosis of bipolar disorder in 2011, Jang Keun Suk has responded to every health examination request made by the Military Manpower Administration."
It added, "One's health condition is a private information, and we feel cautious to discuss his condition in detail. However, as Jang Keun Suk has grown as an actor based on his fans' incessant love and support, we feel responsible to disclose the information clearly. He tried his best to overcome the disorder, but we regret to tell you that he wasn't able to get a satisfactory outcome."
Jang Keun Suk's alternative military service begins on July 16, and he will serve his duty as a public service worker for two years.
